Moves may be entered to the program in either algebraic
or english notation, however you are asking for it if you don't
use algebraic. It will output moves in algebraic notation.
I have set up the copy on the system to default to depth 2.
This can be changed using the <alt>D command. <alt>D<integer><space>
will do the trick. As is the case with all commands to the program
it will let you know you have won by echoing a "←". You can also
specify to the program the amount of real time it should take per move,.
by using the <alt>C command. To enable whatever setting has been give
to the <alt>C command use <alt>T both described in the blurb given
by the program.
PW means play white, PB means play black, and <ctrl>B will display
the board. When the program moves output will look something like this,
"1 W E2-E4 2 0 TIME 0.1 IN 0.2".
The number is the move number, the "W" means white. E2-E4 is the
move in alabraic notation where the board looks like this:
8 BR BN BB BQ BK BB BN BR
7 BP BP BP BP BP BP BP BP
6 -- ** -- ** -- ** -- **
5 ** -- ** -- ** -- ** --
4 -- ** -- ** -- ** -- **
3 ** -- ** -- ** -- ** --
2 WP WP WP WP WP WP WP WP
1 WR WN WB WQ WK WB WN WR
A B C D E F G H
Thus the move E2-E4 would leave the board looking like this:
8 BR BN BB BQ BK BB BN BR
7 BP BP BP BP BP BP BP BP
6 -- ** -- ** -- ** -- **
5 ** -- ** -- ** -- ** --
4 -- ** -- ** WP ** -- **
3 ** -- ** -- ** -- ** --
2 WP WP WP WP -- WP WP WP
1 WR WN WB WQ WK WB WN WR
When entering moves youself use no punctuation and no terminator.
That is to say, if you wished to make the move E2-E4, you would
type "E2E4". The program will echo a "←" iff your move is legal in
all senses. If it does not echo a backarrow then something is wrong
with your move most probably.
Back to the output. The next number (after the "E2-E4") is the depth
to which the program "thought". This is a conservative estamate however
since the program chases captures and checks regardless of depth settings.
The next nubmer is "meaningless". The two figures stated for time
are the CPU time followed by the real time taken on the move listed.
So, just to get a random game started, type "R TECH2
PW" at which the program will echo a "←" and the first
move. Enter your move, for exapmple "E7E5" which will meet
with another "←", indicating the program is cranking away on its
responce.
Have fun, if you have dificulty using it let me know and I will help you.
